If I enroll in a program, am I a student of “Open SUNY” or a student of one of the 64 SUNY campuses?
If you enroll in a degree program, you will be a student of the campus offering the program. Open SUNY is not a campus, and therefore does not offer degrees or courses. Open SUNY is a simple way for you to find offerings throughout the SUNY system that meet your needs. To get started, visit the Open SUNY Navigator and search for programs or courses.
Do programs and courses found on the Open SUNY website cost more or less money than if I were to find the program or course on the campus’ website?
Programs and courses listed on the Open SUNY website cost the same tuition and fees normally associated with that program or course as registration and all other procedures to sign up are still handled by the offering campus. If you have any questions about the cost and fees associated with a particular program or course, please contact the offering campus by visiting our Campuses page or by following the links to the campus website through the Open SUNY Navigator. General information about typical program and course costs can be found on our Cost and Financial Aid page.
Can I transfer credits from another school toward an online program at SUNY?
Yes, in many instances SUNY campuses will count credit from other institutions toward your degree program. The rules for transfer can vary by institution, so it is recommended that you contact the campus you hope to transfer credits to directly for assistance. For additional information on transfer policies at SUNY, please visit our Transfers and Credits page.
