Within your course, the professor will provide a course schedule that indicates specific deadlines for the completion of assignments and activities. The Course Schedule document provided within your online course will help you complete the academic requirements for your course and stay on task during the semester. Within this Demo Course, there is no specific schedule for completion and you may work through the course at your own pace. The schedule below outlines the steps a registered student would follow prior to the start of the course.

You should complete the Demo Course prior to registering for a course offered through the SLN web site.

Reminder: Registration is completed at the SUNY college offering the course.

Complete Test Your System

You must complete Test Your System as the first step towards creating an SLN password account.

Create an SLN password account

(see note regarding Late Arrivals)
Complete the steps to create your SLN password account at any time. If the course you are registered for is not yet listed when you create your SLN account, complete the process anyway. Add access to the course about a week prior to the start date of the course by using the Select/Change Course Access link from the password-protected Student Commons.

Note: Late arriving students need permission from the instructor to enter a course even if they are already registered at the college.

Complete the Student Orientation

Any time after creating your SLN password account Self-paced
You can complete the Student Orientation after creating your SLN password account and prior to the start of your course. It can take from 2-4 hours to complete the activities within the Student Orientation.
