Subject: Your Next Steps
Just as you have the opportunity to talk or chat with your classmates and/or instructor when taking a conventional classroom course, you have the same opportunity within an online course. The Bulletin Board is an informal discussion area that takes place outside the context of the learning modules and is available to students enrolled in the same course. In this Demo Course, anyone who visits can post, read messages and respond. You will find the Bulletin Board in the Class Community section of the Course Map.
Meet Your Classmates is an area where you introduce yourself to the class by posting a brief introduction about yourself, such as your name, college, and interests. Since you will not see your classmates nor your professor face to face, this is where you "meet" other students enrolled in the course. Your profile helps the professor and your classmates get to know each other and begin to build a sense of class community. In this Demo Course, you will not be able to submit a profile but you will see sample profiles.
As your next step, go to the Course Map and do the following:
- Click on the Bulletin Board area. Post an item to start a discussion, or read other student responses, if there are any, and make a response.
- Click on the Meet Your Classmates area and look at a sample profile document.
When you have completed these two tasks, you are ready to begin the first Learning Module of the course.
